This is....my god time really flies.....my last week here at AFNORTH! Terrible feeling I can tell you!
But enough abo0ut my feelings....back to business.
B day lesson on ‘the smallest dragonboy’
Today Jenny visited me again at Afnorth. Unfortunately this is my last week here and I am really going to miss my colleagues and students.
But back to my lesson.
This is the lesson plan I had to follow because Mr Padron (my supervisor) already read the story with them and my task was to go trough the questions and give them their final assignment. This assignment is writing a narrative.
This is the lessonplan:
The Smallest Dragonboy
Reading Check
a. What does Keevan want as the story opens?
b. How are dragonriders chosen?
c. Why does Keevan think he might be kept from the Impression?
d. How does the bully Beterli try to ruin Keevan’s chances on Hatching Day?
e. Describe Keevan’s struggle to reach the Hatching Ground.
f. What happens to Keevan just when he is most discouraged?
First Thoughts
1. Describe or draw one vivid image that you recall from this story. Compare your picture with your classmates’. Is your image the same as any of theirs?
Thinking Critically
2. Make a chart showing all the conflicts Keevan faces. Which conflict do you think is the hardest for him?
External Conflicts Internal Conflicts
3.
Think about Beterli’s character. What inferences can you make to explain Beterli’s motivation for trying to ruin Keevan’s chances on Hatching Day?
4. Why does K’van reject the help Lessa offers him at the end of the story? What inference can you make about K’van from his action?
Extending Interpretations
5. List all the women in this story. Do you think they have powerful positions in Pern society, or do only men hold power? Explain. If you were writing about Pern, what roles and responsibilities would you give to men and women?
WRITING
Writing a Narrative
This story is an “underdog” story, in which a person who seems like a loser ends up a winner. Check the notes you took before you read this story, and write a short narrative in which you tell about a time when you felt like an underdog. What did you do about it? What did the experience teach you? If you’ve never had an underdog experience, you might write about someone you know who has.
After my lesson Jenny gave me her reflection/ feedback form and we talked about the tips and tops of my lesson.
This wasn’t easy to do because the students read the story. The story is in their language arts books and they leave it in class and because they read the story last week on Thursday and Friday I didn't had the proper chance to read the story like they did. Just a quick peek at it and start the lesson. The feedback was (in my oppinion) positive and after that we had a check at my essay. It's sufficient but I need to rewrite a couple of sentences (simple sentences and put them in complex/compound sentences)
But the most important thing (for me) today was bringing x-mas gifts for my colleagues! Kevin is crazy about red wine so I bought a bottle for him. The rest of my colleagues are all women so I bought a x-mas light for them. A ceramic reindeer and you can put a candle inside. Thank god they liked it!
It feels weird to go after this Wednesday. I will miss them and when I have time I will definitly drop by any time I can!! snik.....
